It has been a controversial issue that whether or not uniforms are compulsory at high schools. Some people think that wearing uniform encourages students to be proud of their school. Others believe that they have the freedom to choose what they’d like to wear. To my mind, it’s essential for students to be required to wear uniform at school. My first reason is that uniform helps them focus on studying in class. Thinking about what to wear and how to look better than classmates everyday are a waste of time. Instead of having to search for the suitable clothes with various colours and styles each morning, you can put your uniform on and go to school faster. Thus, you may concentrate more intently on your lessons without paying much attention in other’s dresses.
My second reason lies on its profound influences on the behaviours of learners. Wearing uniform is an expression of pride to the school where you are studying. Obviously, students can be recognized everywhere with the label of school in their uniforms. This stimulates them to obey the discipline and behave properly to others in order not to lose their school’s reputation. As a result, it’s a good way to develop their consciousness and responsibility for themselves.
On the contrary, some opponents debate that uniform wastes a great amount of money for parents, especially in low-income families. Such argument seems to have some merits on the surface. However, uniform is greatly cost-effective. Every year, parents have to spend money on the needs of their children’s dressing. In stead of buying fashioned and expensive clothes, they may choose uniform for their children. In no way can it be said that uniform is expensive. Moreover, it also recalls the old students to a great number of unforgettable memories they have ever experienced in their campus life.
From all the afore reasons mentioned, I would say that, school uniform is crucial for all students. It helps keep them from distraction, strengthen their mental quality and save money for poor families. Therefore, it should be an indispensable part of students’s clothes at high schools.
